Beck: The FBI Will Investigate Nude Celeb Photo Hacking but Not IRS?
Glenn Beck returned to his radio show today with some thoughts on the celebrity nude photo hacking and, in part, what it means for online privacy. And Beck started out by saying, “Anybody who is taking naked photos, you’re dumb as a box of rocks.”
Beck explained (in a kind of awkward moment) that he didn’t know who Jennifer Lawrence was at first, and was about to Google her name, until something occurred to him: “They’re now saying they’re tracking everybody that are sharing these pictures, so if you Google searched for naked pictures of Jennifer Lawrence, are you now on a list with the FBI?”
And then Beck went a step further, tying this into ideas about political optics. Beck charged that nobody cares whether the FBI investigates other privacy violations (specifically invoking the IRS as an example of this), but they’re doing so in the case of these nude photos because it’s good optics for them.
“They’re doing it because they’re seen doing something to protect Jennifer Lawrence. They’re seen righting the wrongs of poor little Jennifer Lawrence. And everyone will see it.”
