Bill Maher: GOP Discourages Voting ‘Like Interracial Dating’

On his show’s blog, HBO Real Time host Bill Maher says U.S. elections are ruined by the “nuts” who are more likely than everyone else to vote in primaries.

Maher suggests in his Friday blog post that primaries could be replaced by a system in which voters, regardless of party, cast a ballot for whoever they want and the two candidates getting the most votes (again, regardless of party) have a runoff.

He says, however, it would result in more “boring” politics and that Republicans wouldn’t prefer that type of system, regardless.

“I think the Republicans like the primary system just fine,” Maher writes. “They think voting should be legal but discouraged, like interracial dating.”
