On Tuesday evening, Bill Maher sent out a snarky missive targeted at voters in Alabama and Mississippi holding elections for their Republican primaries, tweeting “Toothless Tuesday too tight to tally!”
“We’re gathered around the magic picture box with a bowl of grits watching the returns come in!” Maher swiped.
On Friday, Maher aired interviews taken by Alexandra Pelosi with rural Mississippi voters, (and at least one man who was missing teeth) stressing to his audience, “We are not making fun of anybody!” He claimed he was merely documenting “real Americans.”
Newsbusters’ Noel Sheppard observes that Maher’s interviews rubbed some people the wrong way, most notably, comedian Roseanne Barr, who was outraged by Maher’s segment, calling his interviews “elitist” and “classism at its best.”
