Boehner on Grimm Resignation: ‘Honorable Decision’ to Step Down
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has released a statement on the resignation of Rep. Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.), calling his decision to step down an “honorable” one.
Here’s the full statement: “Rep. Grimm made the honorable decision to step down from his seat in Congress. I know it was made with the best interests of his constituents and the institution in mind, and I appreciate his years of service in the House.”
Last week, Grimm pleaded guilty to a tax fraud charge. Immediately, top Democrats and the DCCC called on Boehner to insist that Grimm resign. The congressman was criticized earlier this year when he threatened to throw a NY1 reporter off of a balcony at the Capitol building after the State of the Union.
