Bristol Palin To Make Her Acting Debut

Well, I guess this really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. The LAT‘s Matea Gold is reporting that Bristol Palin, teenage daughter of Sarah Palin, mother of Tripp Palin, former girlfriend of Levi Johnston will be making her acting debut on the TV show “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” Actually, I’m not sure ‘acting’ debut is accurate since she’ll be playing herself. But nevertheless: television! From the article:

“Bristol Palin is the most famous teenage mother in America,” executive producer Brenda Hampton said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to have her join us, and I think she will bring additional attention to the issues facing teen parents that we’ve been exploring for a couple of seasons now.”

The most famous teenage mother in America. I’m not sure whether to be disturbed by that phrase (celebrity magazines have spent the last few years fetishizing pregnancy) or encouraged by the utter absence of a negative stigma. Either way, it’s an interesting choice for Palin. From what I gather “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” takes a fairly frank view of teenagedom, and Bristol (and subsequently) Levi certainly did give America a glimpse into the realities of teenagedom in many parts of the country. However, don’t get too excited, according to Gold the episode isn’t airing till summer.
