Can YOU Spot What’s Wrong With Bette Midler’s Fact-Check of Donald Trump?

Legendary singer and comedienne Bette Midler fact-checked President Donald Trump‘s Tuesday congressional address on Twitter, accusing him of overstating the gun violence in Chicago. See if you can spot the flaw in her logic:
Trump says that 4000 people were shot in Chicago in 2016. Chicago Tribune says 2016 ended with 762 homicides. https://t.co/f0AoJBDexV

If you answered, “Shootings and homicides aren’t remotely the same thing,” congratulations, you’re more intelligent than the executive producer of Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. People get shot all the time without dying, and not all homicides are shootings.
As it happens, Trump’s figures were exactly correct. Per The Chicago Tribune Wednesday morning, their tally showed “there were 4,367 shooting victims in the city last year.”
