Carney: WH Not Happy with Samsung Using Obama Selfie for Self-Promotion
President Obama met with the Boston Red Sox at the White House, and one of the highlights was David Ortiz getting to take a selfie with the president himself. Here’s the selfie as a reminder:
What an honor! Thanks for the #selfie, @BarackObama pic.twitter.com/y5Ww74sEID

Well, the selfie was naught but a promotional stunt sponsored by Samsung. Naturally, the White House isn’t too happy about the president being used for promotional purposes.
“As the rule the White House objects to attempts to use the president’s likeness for commercial purposes,” said press secretary Jay Carney. “We object in this case.”
Carney would not say whether the White House counsel’s office has contacted Samsung or Ortiz to lodge a protest or request the photo be taken down.
For what it’s worth, Ortiz denies it was orchestrated as a stunt ahead of time.
