Ben Carson spoke today at the University of New Hampshire, where it was reported that the Presidential candidate seemed to make an off-putting joke about police violence towards black people while talking about his childhood.
NBC reporter Alexandra Jaffe was covering the event, and tweeted how Carson could hop fences to get away from police officers after playfully “throwing rocks at cars”. Carson joked about listening to Mozart as a child, and how he has a “tremendous amount of respect for police because they put their lives on the line every day”.
However, Jaffe reported one particular joke about the difference between police officers of his youth and those of today:
Carson jokes about running away from cops as a kid: “That was back in the day before they would shoot you — I’m just kidding,” he laughs
