Charlie Kirk, the prolific pro-Trump propagandist who had a months-long meltdown when mega-celebrity Kanye West voiced support for the current president, appeared on Fox & Friends Monday to declare that Taylor Swift should stay out of politics.
It’s a frequent talking point on Fox & Friends — that celebrities should stick with entertaining, unless they support Trump, in which case, come on the show to chat! — but never has the contradiction been so brazenly displayed as when brain genius Charlie Kirk appeared to talk about Swift’s endorsement of Democratic candidates for the midterms.
“This is what I used to love about Taylor Swift, is she used to stay away from politics,” Kirk said. “She was just all about music, all about female empowerment.”
Kirk then suggested that Swift did not write her Instagram post decrying Tennessee Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn and endorsing Democratic former Gov. Phil Bredesen.
“So look Taylor Swift, I love your music. Personally, Kanye West, I’m a bigger fan of his,” Kirk said. “Stay away from politics.”
Kirk wasn’t always a Kanye West fan. But then West, over the course of a frenzied and controversial promotional campaign for his album ye, endorsed President Trump, to the delight of Kirk, who has enthusiastically hopped on the rapper’s coattails.
On Twitter, Kirk was far more critical of Swift following her post. He tweeted that her “career has never recovered since Kanye ended it,” a reference to that time West stole the microphone from her at the 2009 VMAs to declare that she was unworthy of the award. Since that moment, Swift has released four number 1, multi-platinum albums, selling more than 25 million records.
Hey @taylorswift13 –
You just endorsed a Democrat in the Tennessee senate race with a ridiculous statement saying Marsha Blackburn, a woman, is against women
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about
Your career has never recovered since Kanye ended it
