China Really Wants to Know Who Shot a Sex Video in Uniqlo

Uniqlo’s flagship store in Beijing is becoming a viral sensation, but not for reasons that China likes very much. Apparently, a frisky couple shot a cell phone video of themselves having sex inside one of the store’s dressing rooms and now it’s catching fire on the internet. So much so that young people are taking selfies outside the store, treating it like some sort of sex tape Mecca. (“This is where it happened…” “Whoa…”) But the Chinese government is none too thrilled by this and they are doing everything they can to track the couple down. Not only because it’s a sex tape, but because it might be a marketing ploy by Uniqlo.

The store has denied having any involvement in the video or its dissemination and has issued a statement urging shoppers to “make proper use of its fitting rooms” and not make out in them, which young Chinese people on the internet now use as a euphemism for “getting busy in the fitting rooms.” Oh, kids!

The web companies that have made it easy to spread the video, however, have already gotten in trouble with the Cyberspace Administration of China and police are investigating the video for its obscene material, which is against the law. The AP also reports that the video is now “difficult to find.”

Will we, as a planet, ever look at a Uniqlo dressing room the same way again? Hopefully not.
