Chuck Todd: If You Have a ‘Bad Taste in Your Mouth’ Over Fallen Soldiers Flap, ‘You’re Not Alone’
Many cable news personalities this week have expressed discomfort and/or disgust with having to cover the controversy involving President Donald Trump‘s condolence call to Myeshia Johnson — whose husband, Army Sgt. La David Johnson was killed in an ambush in Niger.
Add Chuck Todd to the list.
The MTP: Daily host opened his show Thursday by talking about the trying nature of the subject at hand.
Folks, President Trump has conditioned a lot of us not to believe what he says. Whether it’s his position on a bipartisan health care deal, or his account of what he told the family of a fallen soldier.
The President has not earned the benefit of doubt, or, frankly has lost it with many folks. And there are plenty of folks in his inner circle, including leaders in his own party, frequently telling us not give him the benefit of the doubt, whether on Russia, Iran, voter fraud, free press and so on.
It causes a lot of chaos at times. And when that chaos collides with a heart wrenching issue like grieving military families, the result can be extremely difficult to watch — like today has been.
The MTP: Daily host went on to play a clip from White House Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly‘s press conference Thursday backing the President. Todd’s take?
“Kelly may have given the President some cover politically, for now. But folks, if you’re left with a really bad taste in your mouth from this whole thing, you’re not alone.”
