Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney Rails Against ‘Fraud’ Colin Cowherd After Winning National Title

His team had just won the National Championship in dramatic fashion, but the euphoria didn’t stop Clemson coach Dabo Swinney from sounding off on the pundits that didn’t think his squad had a chance.

Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson‘s two yard touchdown pass to Hunter Renfrow with 1 second left propelled Clemson to a remarkable victory over Alabama, and it gave Swinney the ammunition with which to fire upon Clemson’s critics.

“Now ya’ll gotta change your stories,” Swinney said to reporters in the post-game news conference. “You gotta change the narrative. Ya’ll gotta mix it up.”

One skeptic in particular drew his ire — Fox Sports 1 host Colin Cowherd. Swinney cited his team’s high-profile victories over Ohio State and Oklahoma prior to Monday night’s title tilt as reasons that Cowherd and others shouldn’t have doubted the Tigers’ chances.

“The guy that called us a fraud,” Swinney said. “Ask Alabama if we’re a fraud. Was his name Colin Cowherd? Never met him, don’t know him. Ask Alabama if we’re a fraud. Ask Ohio State if we’re a fraud. Ask Oklahoma if we’re a fraud.

“The only fraud is that guy,” Swinney added for good measure. “‘Cause he didn’t do his homework. I hope ya’ll print that.”

Cowherd remained critical of Clemson even during the game on Twitter. And afterwards, he offered some backhanded praise for the game — but not the Tigers themselves.
