CNN’s Jeffrey Lord: Reagan Didn’t Get an Honorary Oscar For Ending Cold War Because He’s Conservative
During tonight’s broadcast of Erin Burnett OutFront, CNN political commentator and Donald Trump supporter Jeffrey Lord attempted to make the case that Ronald Reagan should have been given an honorary Oscar for bringing an end to the Cold War.
In a discussion about Meryl Streep’s Golden Globes speech that took aim at Trump, Lord was asked if he agreed with the White House’s assessment that the actress’s remarks were thoughtful and carefully considered.
“No, I don’t agree,” Lord told host Erin Burnett. He then proceeded to go on about how liberal Hollywood is and that no one in “the real world takes them seriously.”
This turned into Lord bringing up a column he wrote years ago by the Oscar’s humanitarian award, noting that he argued then that since it was an honorary award, why former actor Reagan wasn’t given one.
“I wanted to know why former actor Ronald Reagan had not gotten an Oscar for ending the Cold War,” Lord said. “I mean, they weren’t going to give it to him because of course he was a conservative. This is their bent. this is what they do.”
He further added that all this would do is “help Donald Trump.”
