CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin Bewildered By Roger Stone Flirting With Gag Order: ‘Insane, What He’s Doing’

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin expressed bewilderment Tuesday, after Roger Stone posted a photo to his Instagram story which appears to be flirting with the conditions of his gag order. The photo, now deleted, urged followers to donate to his legal defense fund, and had the caption “who framed Roger Stone?”

After a previous photo on Stone’s Instagram page depicted Judge Amy Berman Jackson (the presiding judge in his case) with rifle crosshairs in the background, Stone was placed under a gag order prohibiting him from publicly criticizing or alluding in any way to Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation.

Toobin said it was “insane” that Stone would jeopardize himself by publishing another questionable photo to his Instagram account.

“I think he’s playing with fire. I think he could get locked up. I mean, this is insane what he’s doing,” said Toobin, adding in an aside that Stone’s book was probably not so bad because it had come out before the gag order, but the Instagram post is very risky. He continued, “I think he’s — he is playing with fire and Judge Jackson is not screwing around. I mean, I don’t think this will get him locked up, but it might.”

The CNN analyst also responded in jest to a crop-out of his face photoshopped on the image of a “Roger Stone Did Nothing Wrong” t-shirt that Stone had posted to his Instagram page: “I’m kind of famous now.”
