Colbert Mocks George Will For Leaving the GOP: Look Out Political Parties, ‘He’s Single!’

As Donald Trump has stepped up his nativist and controversial rhetoric, more and more Republicans have tried to distance themselves from the party and its nominee. In response, Stephen Colbert began his Late Show segment Monday night by citing yesterday’s Politico report that said that few Republican elites want to speak at next month’s Cleveland convention.

George Will, a Washington Post columnist and current political free agent, has decided to leave the Republican Party altogether over Trump and has decided to switch his political affiliation to ‘unaffiliated’.

“George Will is officially now George Won’t,” Colbert quipped.

Will has also decided to switch his political affiliation to ‘unaffiliated’ in his home state of Maryland. “Which means, other parties… he’s single!” Colbert exclaimed with Will’s photo in a heart a la The Dating Game:

“This ultimate piece of political man-meat is a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and a Fox News contributor. He’s far right in the streets and all wrong in the sheets. Turn-ons include baseball metaphors, abolishing the minimum wage and creating voluntary personal retirement accounts in order to reduce the federal cost of Social Security. Mmmm, daddy like.”

Colbert ends his segment by saying that Will looking for a rebound after his long relationship with the Republicans.

“So give Georgie a call today. Cause, if you think that bow-tie looks good on him, you should see how it looks on your floor,” ends Colbert with a laugh from the crowd.
