Conservatives Blow Up After Trump Declares ‘Tariffs Are the Greatest!’

It seems Donald Trump is prepared to take America’s trade wars up a notch, though not everyone agrees with his latest proclamation that “tariffs are the greatest!”
The president got back on the Twitter machine today to insist that trade negotiations are going just fine, despite all the recent tension with America’s trading partners.
Countries that have treated us unfairly on trade for years are all coming to Washington to negotiate. This should have taken place many years ago but,
as the saying goes, better late than never!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 24, 2018
After that, Trump announced that tariffs were to thank for America’s new fair trade agreements.
Tariffs are the greatest! Either a country which has treated the United States unfairly on Trade negotiates a fair deal, or it gets hit with Tariffs. It’s as simple as that – and everybody’s talking! Remember, we are the “piggy bank” that’s being robbed. All will be Great!

Trump’s tariffs on various exported products have angered U.S. allies over the last few months, and taxing consumers while engaging an ongoing trade war could very well cause the price of goods to rise. As such, there are quite a few people on Twitter, including conservative figures, who are wondering whether Trump knows how economics work.
Trump doesn't understand trade deficits. https://t.co/aobvXHJWey https://t.co/fstsL9V3DG

Tariffs are not the greatest. Protectionism sucks and it often hurts most those it's intended to help. #tariffsaretaxesonconsumershttps://t.co/pQAdgqqxWH

Once again, Trump demonstrates that he doesn’t know anything about trade. This “piggy bank being robbed talk” is absolute nonsense. https://t.co/05VdnViDvo

We would be getting robbed if we paid for items to be exported to us, they got the cash but we didn’t get the goods. This is first accusation of theft in history when accuser acknowledges both sides in transaction performed exactly as voluntarily agreed @JonahNRO @scottlincicome https://t.co/ldTmJWifoE

Trump: “All will be Great!”
My admittedly limited life experience is that when people assure you, “All will be Great!”, all won’t be great. https://t.co/ZYiUUNudwi— Bill Kristol (@BillKristol) July 24, 2018

It is truly invincible ignorance. And what's even more appalling is that people will defend it. People who absolutely know better. I can't respect those people anymore. https://t.co/QgSftFOEdu
