Columnist Dan Savage, who is perhaps equally famous for starting the “It Gets Better” campaign and redefining the meaning of “Santorum,” has new piece out this week that tackles recent comments from Dr. Ben Carson, who said he knows being gay is a “choice” because people “go into prison straight — and when they come out, they’re gay.”
“Like truthers (9/11 was an inside job), birthers (Barack Obama was born in Kenya), and deathers (Osama bin Laden is alive and well and living in West Hollywood), choicers are another group deranged conspiracy theorists who can’t be dissuaded by science or evidence or facts,” Savage wrote in his column, before issuing a challenge he has put out to conservatives in the past.
In an open letter to Carson, Savage wrote:
Dear Dr. Carson,
If being gay is a choice, prove it. Choose it. Choose to be gay yourself. Show America how that’s done, Ben, show us how a man can choose to be gay. Suck my dick. Name the time and the place and I’ll bring my dick and a camera crew and you can suck me off and win the argument.

Since making his original comments to CNN’s Chris Cuomo, Carson has subsequently blamed the media, telling Sean Hannity, “I simply have decided I’m not really going to talk about that issue anymore because every time I’m gaining momentum the liberal press says, ‘Let’s talk about gay rights.’ And I’m just not going to fall for that anymore.”
