Dem Rep. Reads Quotes From Ted Cruz, Rubio Bashing Trump at Strzok Hearing to Prove GOP’s Anti-Trump Bias
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) read the receipts Thursday to sock it to the GOP and render the Strzok hearing even more farcical than it already was.
While questioning the star of the — as Raskin put it — “kangaroo court,” FBI Agent Peter Strzok, the Democrat from Maryland asked if several Republicans were part of a “deep state conspiracy” Strzok organized, using disparaging quotes about President Donald Trump during the 2016 election.
“On August 8, 2016, Senator Marco Rubio said Donald Trump is ‘unworthy of being our president,'” Raskin began. “Was this attack part of a deep state conspiracy that you organized?”
Strzok simply replied: “No.”
“In October of 2016, Speaker Paul Ryan said, ‘I am not going to defend Donald Trump. Not now, not in the future,'” Raskin continued. “Was this fleeting outburst of moral courage part of a deep state conspiracy that you organized?”
“No,” said Strzok.
Raskin went on in similar fashion, citing slams on Trump by a bevy of GOP heavyweights, including former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson (a “moron”), former EPA administrator Scott Pruitt (an “empty vessel), former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon (an “11-year-old child”), former National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster (has “the intelligence of a kindergartener”), Bush administrator Karl Rove (an “idiot”), Rep. Duncan Hunter (an “asshole”), and former economic advisor Gary Cohn (an “idiot surrounded by clowns”).
After asking whether any of these comments were part of a conspiracy engineered by Strzok (no, they were not, he answered), Raskin asked how our democracy could possibly recover from such a circus of a hearing.
“Sir, America is strong,” Strzok responded. “However bad I think I’ve seen it in my life, I am confident that the institutions [of] the American people will endure and be great. I have full faith in the United States and all the men and women and even in times of trial and tribulation, I have every confidence that we will emerge as great as we’ve ever been.”
