Dem Rep. Will Introduce Amendment to Dismantle Benghazi Committee

A House Democrat is going to try and push an amendment tonight to abolish the Benghazi Committee––an amendment on a bill to abolish funding for Planned Parenthood.

Yes, reports tonight are saying that the House Rules Committee ranking member will propose an amendment tonight that would replace the language abolishing Planned Parenthood with language abolishing the Benghazi committee instead.

It’s the latest sign of Democrats pushing back after Kevin McCarthy connected the committee to Hillary Clinton‘s poll numbers last week. While the Democrats on the Benghazi committee aren’t going anywhere, they just yesterday released excerpts of private testimony to push back against Republicans’ “inaccurate” and selective leaks.

Slaughter last week released a blistering statement on McCarthy’s remarks with this declaration:

Using the resources of the House of Representatives to destroy a presidential candidate is contemptible and, I believe, ought to be grounds for expulsion from Congress.

UPDATE –– 11:12 pm EST: The amendment failed, with a 7-2 vote against along party lines.
