A gunman opened fire on a baseball practice held by the Republican Congressional team Wednesday morning, wounding five people including Rep. Steve Scalise, who was reportedly shot in the hip.
GOP representatives were practicing for tomorrow’s annual charity game against their Democratic colleagues in the House. In a dramatic account of the attack, Rep. Mo Brooks described how the shooter opened fire on congressmen with a semiautomatic rifle, wounding Scalise, who had to drag his body away until the assailant was shot by Capitol Police.
Congressional Democrats broke out into prayer at their practice game as news came out about the shooting, with Rep. Ruben Kihuen tweeting out the photo above.
Other members of the House Democrat baseball team tweeted out their support for Scalise and those injured in the attack, with many also lauding the heroic efforts of the Capitol Police:
We are all pulling for you @SteveScalise. My heart is with you, the Capitol Police, and everyone who was on the scene.
