Democratic Rep. Introduces Legislation to Get White House to Hold More On-Camera Briefings

With reporters getting steadily more frustrated with the continued off-camera White House press briefings, one Democratic congressman has introduced legislation attempting to get the White House to put more briefings on-camera again.

Congressman Jim Himes introduced a bill yesterday called the Free Press Act. What does it do?

Well, this is what Himes had to say in a Facebook post yesterday:

Today I introduced the Free #Press Act. It requires that the White House hold at least two on-camera press briefings each week.

The White House has begun to dramatically, and in an historically unprecedented way, reduce the media and therefore the American people’s access to the thinking of the president. And that’s not healthy. So now is the time. #firstamendment #freepress

Whether or not this goes anywhere or is just meant to send a message, some members of the press haven’t been happy about the off-camera briefings. CNN even sent a sketch artist to a briefing last month.
