DNC Head: Scott Walker ‘Has Given Women the Back of His Hand’
Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz spoke in Milwaukee today and took a rather startling shot at Republican Governor Scott Walker, with a comment that evoked violence against women.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, during a discussion on women’s issues, Wasserman Schultz said, “Scott Walker has given women the back of his hand. I know that is stark. I know that is direct. But that is reality.”
And she even continued, “What Republican tea party extremists like Scott Walker are doing is they are grabbing us by the hair and pulling us back. It is not going to happen on our watch.”
Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch was quick to condemn her remarks as “absolutely hideous” and demanded an apology. A deputy communications director for the DNC issued this statement:
Domestic violence is an incredibly serious issue and the Congresswoman (Wasserman Schultz) was by no means belittling the very real pain survivors experience.
Update- 6:52 pm: It should be noted that following the tragic Arizona shooting that left Gabrielle Giffords seriously injured, Wasserman Schultz decried the “lack of civility” in American political discourse, coming primarily from the right.
