Ed Martin Gets Shredded By Bill Kristol For Backing Roy Moore: ‘All These Women Made it Up?!’
Two days after GOP nominee Roy Moore lost the Senate special election in the ruby-red state of Alabama, the ex-judge still hasn’t conceded. And some conservatives who supported his candidacy are still sticking to the narrative that Moore was the victim of a political smear campaign when several women came forward to accuse him of sexually abusing them when they were teenagers.
Enter CNN’s Ed Martin.
In a discussion with conservative pundit Bill Kristol and CNN anchor Erin Burnett, Martin said he blamed two people for Moore’s loss — Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The CNN political commentator/Trump loyalist added that once Luther Strange lost the GOP primary, the Republican establishment should have fully backed Moore.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,” Burnett declared. “So you’re in the camp where you’re okay with a child molester in the Senate?”
After telling Burnett that he was pretty sure she meant to say “alleged child molester,” Martin said that what he felt should have happened is that Moore won the election and that there would be an ethics investigation. He also stated that he had no reason to know if the women who accused Moore were telling the truth.
“Oh, come on, come on, all these women made this up?!” Kristol exclaimed, leading Burnett to jump in as well.
“Sir, there were 30 people who corroborated their stories — it’s absurd,” she exclaimed. “It was excellent reporting and it’s true. Anyway, the voters spoke and the voters said what they were going to say.”
Martin responded by saying the voters may have spoken but the person who stopped competing was McConnell, claiming that if there was more money from the RNC in the race Moore would have won.
“I have a higher regard for the Republicans in Alabama who did vote for [Doug] Jones or who stayed home or cast that 1.5% of the absentee ballots,” Kristol shot back. “They wouldn’t have been persuaded by more money. To their credit, enough of them didn’t want to vote for Roy Moore that he lost.”
