Elliot Rodger Was Grandson of Renowned Holocaust Photojournalist

Elliot Rodger, the twenty-two year identified as the shooter who killed at least six people in Santa Barbara on Saturday, was confirmed yesterday to be the son of Hunger Games second unit director Peter Rodger. Now papers are reporting he is the grandson of famed British photographer George Rodger, who took iconic photos of the aftermath of the Holocaust.

According to Haaretz, the elder Rodger was one of the first photojournalists to arrive at the Bergen-Belsen camp after it was liberated. He not only photographed survivors, but documented mass graves that became evidence of the mass genocide. (See above photo.) He passed away in 1995.

Elliot Rodger went on a shooting spree yesterday after posting a video manifesto to YouTube declaring himself the “alpha male” and promising revenge on the women who rejected him. Rodger died in the spree as well.
