Ex-CIA Official in New Book: GOP Distorted Agency’s Benghazi Findings
Released details from a new book from an ex-deputy director of the CIA say Republicans in Congress distorted the intelligence agency’s analysis of what happened in the lead-up to and during the Benghazi attack.
Michael Morell wrote The Great War of Our Time about how the CIA has been fighting terrorism in the post-9/11 era, both under George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
And according to The New York Times, he makes it clear there was no stand-down order that conservatives have touted happened.
In addition, Morell says flat-out there was no “conspiracy between C.I.A. and the White House to spin the Benghazi story in a way that would protect the political interests of the president and Secretary Clinton.”
However, he also says that the State Department failed to increase security for diplomats at the Benghazi embassy, and that the CIA should not be in the business of prepping talking points that can end up being used with political intent.
