FAA Issues Flight Restrictions over Ferguson, Missouri
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a no-fly zone over the town of Ferguson, Missouri today, amid protests and police clashes over the shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown by a police officer.
On the FAA website, the reason for ordering the no-fly zone is “to provide a safe environment for law enforcement activities.” The order forbids all low-flying planes, helicopters, etc. from entering that airspace.
Shepard Smith pointed out on Fox News earlier that this means no news choppers can get aerial shots of whatever’s happening in Ferguson, leaving only police choppers in the skies above the Missouri town. It’s also worth pointing out that last night, police ordered members of the press to leave as they were dispersing protestors with tear gas.
