First-Ever TV Ad for Marijuana Pulled Before Airing in Colorado

pot adThe cannabis company Neos was all set to make history with a TV commercial for a marijuana product, the first-ever on U.S. television. The spot was to advertise their vape pen, and was going to air on KMGH, an ABC affiliate in Denver, Colorado, where pot is legal.

But according to NBC News, the station’s parent company made the decision to pull the ad.

Why? Because they suddenly realized they had to “investigate the legality of airing a ‘federally illegal’ substance on federal airwaves.”

The actual pen itself is not shown in the ad, but it was still pulled out of an abundance of caution “about the lack of clarity around federal regulations that govern broadcast involving such ads.”
