Former CNN reporter Jim Clancy added his voice to the others who covered the same demonstrations in Buenos Aires that Bill O’Reilly did and is heavily disputing his account of what happened.
Clancy tweeted this just a few days ago, when the Mother Jones report broke wide:
IMHO O'Reilly exaggerates his experiences 'in war' — I spent 3 months in Buenos Aires and never came within a thousand miles of combat.
— Jim Clancy (@ClancyReports) February 20, 2015
But after O’Reilly covered it again tonight (with an ex-NBC News bureau chief backing him up), Clancy tweeted out a lot more, going point-by-point through what he deemed problems in O’Reilly’s story:
Bill O'Reilly appeals for audience to "lay to rest" his WHOPPERS over Casa Rosada protests in '82. Brings on supporters…backpedals.
— Jim Clancy (@ClancyReports) February 24, 2015
But none of what he, or anyone else, said tonight lifts the weight of O'Reilly claims he saw people gunned down outside Casa Rosada.
— Jim Clancy (@ClancyReports) February 24, 2015
It was a chaotic demonstration..tear gas. But Bill O'Reilly isn't telling the truth when he says he saw people killed in front of his eyes.
— Jim Clancy (@ClancyReports) February 24, 2015
I was there throughout the Casa Rosada demo. I saw no live fire, no gunshot casualties and it is clear to me Bill O'Reilly is not truthful.
— Jim Clancy (@ClancyReports) February 24, 2015
Bill O'Reilly claimed tonight that "no one" knew how many died because Junta "hid" the numbers.
— Jim Clancy (@ClancyReports) February 24, 2015
Junta in Argentina had plenty to hide. But apparently, so does Bill O'Reilly. Hear him lying about what happened: http://t.co/Gjsg057LLO
— Jim Clancy (@ClancyReports) February 24, 2015
@jonygitar Yes, I heard O'Reilly try to smear Enberg. But that doesn't clean up O'Reilly's WHOPPERS! Saw people mowed down? BS
— Jim Clancy (@ClancyReports) February 24, 2015
@jonygitar Argentina was in shock. In many ways, the demonstration reminded me of a football "riot" after the home team loses.
— Jim Clancy (@ClancyReports) February 24, 2015
Clancy, you might remember, left CNN last month after getting into some trouble on Twitter over a tweetstream that started on Charlie Hebdo and ended with Clancy going off on supposed Israeli propagandists targeting him.
