Fort Lee Mayor Will Attend State of the Union; Insert Traffic Joke Here
Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich, for whom the lane closures on the George Washington Bridge were supposedly a message, got a silver lining out of it all: an invite to tonight’s State of the Union address.
Sokolich will attend as the guest of Representative Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), who said that he certainly was not bringing Sokolich as a message of his own. “He did exhibit a standup attitude (on the bridge issue) which I’ve grown to like and I can’t say I kept that out of my mind because that’s not the truth, but it’s not the reason he was selected,” he told the Star-Ledger.

Sokolich did not endorse New Jersey Governor Chris Christie in the 2013 gubernatorial election, and the early and still-prevailing theory of Bridgegate is that the lane closures, which hit Sokolich’s town of Fort Lee, were political retribution—though alternate, Sokolich-less theories exist.
All joking aside, Sokolich might want to catch a flight down to D.C., as traffic between Jersey and Capital City can get stupid.
