Fox News Poll Concludes Tea Partiers Are Racist, Conspiracy Theorists
Let’s just first qualify this by stating that online polls, for any variety of reasons, are not necessarily reliable. Nevertheless, it’s hard not to note this FOXNews.com poll, in which nearly 160,000 people (ostensibly) participated. The poll asks “What Is the Tea Party Movement About?” Here are your options:
- Small government and fiscal responsibility
- Exposing Democrats’ socialist agenda
- Voicing outrage at out-of-touch politicians
- Fruitless mix of racism, conspiracy theories
- Other (add your comment)
Currently 76% of participants (approx. 120,000 people) have clicked on option four: “Fruitless mix of racism, conspiracy theories.” So either the Tea Party popularity meme is a product of the media’s need for a narrative to fill the cold months and doesn’t actually reflect the public’s views or some left wing website rallied the troops to go vote (Update: see Robert Quigley’s comment). You decide!
