Gyrocopter Pilot Indicted, Faces Over 9 Years in Prison
A federal grand jury has indicted the man who flew a gyrocopter from Florida to Washington, D.C. and landed near the U.S. Capitol.
61-year-old mailman Doug Hughes flew around Capitol grounds in protests of Citizens United and campaign finance law. It certainly got people talking about campaign finance, as well as Capitol security.
But now Hughes has been indicted, and is expected to appear in federal court tomorrow.
He was indicted on six counts, including violating registration requirements involving aircraft and violation of national defense airspace. All these counts could get Hughes up to 9.5 years in prison.
