Hey Rachel, We Noticed These Pranksters’ Campaign of Mischief Months Ago

On her show Wednesday night, Rachel Maddow devoted an entire segment to the antics of two pranksters who have been trolling candidates and reporters up and down the campaign trail for months.

It’s a great segment — and these guys certainly deserve acknowledgement for the small role they have played in making this crazy election cycle even crazier. We at Mediaite take issue only with Maddow’s conclusion, where she says:

These guys have been pranking the entire campaign. They’ve been pranking national politics in lots of different ways for a long time. It’s weird that nobody’s been really pulling the through line here to see that it’s the same guys pranking the campaign for all of these months. [emphasis added]

Because someone has pulled that through line. Namely, us.

You see, when Fox’s Carl Cameron reported on the “Trump supporters” walking down the street in West Palm Beach, Florida sporting eerily fascist Trump armbands, we realized that we had seen these guys before. The armband boasters appeared to be the same guys who were caught on camera wearing “Settle for Hillary” t-shirts at a Clinton rally the previous month, as well as instigating several other guerrilla gags at campaign events.

In a piece entitled The Comedians Who Fooled Fox Reporter Today Have Been Pranking Candidates for a While published in March, we traced the duo’s exploits from Florida to New York (where they tried to erect a tiny wall around Trump Tower) to New Hampshire (where they attempted to exorcise a demon out of Ted Cruz).

We connected them to a 2011 performance in which they “occupied” Occupy Wall Street (which Maddow mentioned in her report) as well as a 2012 stunt where they duped multiple local news teams into believing they represented a group lobbying to legalize shooting people suspected of committing voter fraud (which Maddow did not mention).

We don’t ask for riches or awards. Just some acknowledgement.

Oh, and remember those shirtless guys who showed up at the Clinton rally last week? Yep.
