‘Hope and Redemption’: Beyoncé’s Mother Dishes on Lemonade Amid Rumors and Controversy

PicMonkey Collage - Tina Knowles-LawsonIn the last couple of weeks, there’s been quite a bit of commotion over the social themes and allegations prevalent in Beyoncé‘s new album/visual project, Lemonade. Yesterday, reporters caught up with the pop sensation’s mother, and she answered several questions over what the album is really about.

“People make it all about the cheating and betrayal and, yes, that’s a part of it because that is something you have to heal from,” Tina Knowles-Lawson said to ABC 13. “If you really listen to the poetry, it is one of hope and redemption and hopefully that can be healing for people.”

Some fans interpreted the lyrics in Beyoncé’s work to mean that she was venting about her rapper husband Jay Z cheating on her. Some fans have taken the lyrics and recent reports to mean that Beyoncé was alluding to fashionista Rachel Roy, who’s reportedly been fending off complications to her personal life as she denies the rumors of a love triangle.

While the elder Knowles’ admission adds to the idea that Lemonade is about infidelity, she also insisted that it contains lessons about how to move past challenges and become stronger.

Knowles-Lawson linked the album’s themes to her own life, citing her 2011 divorce from Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles. The marriage ended after Mr. Knowles’ infidelity came to light, and Knowles-Lawson credited her children for helping her get back on her feet.
