‘It’s Too Early to Celebrate, Mr. Cosby!’ Gloria Allred Reacts to Bill Cosby Mistrial Declaration
Following the declaration of a mistrial in the Bill Cosby indecent assault criminal case, attorney Gloria Allred held a press conference to provide the point of view of the accusers of Cosby. And during the presser, the lawyer wanted Cosby to know that it isn’t over yet
Allred represents numerous women who have accused the 79-year-old comedian of sexually assaulting them over the years. One of those women is Kelly Johnson, who served as a witness for the prosecution during the trial. Allred mentioned Johnson in her remarks, stating that she feels that if the case is retried — prosecutors have said they will go back to court — that the judge needs to allow more witnesses.
“I hope that the prosecution will try this case again and that the next time the court will permit more priority bad act witnesses to testify as the prosecution had requested for this trial,” Allred stated. “For the trial that just ended, the court only allowed one such prior bad act witness to testify. And that was my client, Kelly Johnson, rather than the 13 such witnesses which the prosecution wanted to call.”
She then let Cosby know that he shouldn’t relax.
“It’s too early to celebrate, Mr. Cosby,” she declared. “Round two may be just around the corner. And this time, justice may prevail.”
The jury had entered its sixth day of deliberations and was unable to come to a verdict on the three charges of aggravated indecent assault. Judge Steven O’Neill then declared the mistrial due to the jury being hopelessly deadlocked.
