John Legend: Ferguson Cops ‘Intentionally’ Inflaming Tensions
Musician and activist John Legend took to Twitter last night to vent his frustrations with the unbelievable scenes unfolding in Ferguson, Mo. Legend said that the police are deliberately trying to inflame tensions and that racism is definitely playing a role:
I believe these cops are intentionally trying to inflame the situation. They want an excuse.

Recall the local cop telling those "animals" to "bring it" on CNN… He wants a fight.
— John Legend (@johnlegend) August 14, 2014
Calling us "animals" has been the language to justify slavery, Jim Crow and all manner of injustice. Dehumanization and racism go together

Legend even engaged with some critics on Twitter:
@IBNNNEWS human. citizen. taxpayer. i'm in my lane, homie.
— John Legend (@johnlegend) August 14, 2014
@jokertodd1 the VAST majority of protesters have been peaceful and legally acting within their rights. The cops still point guns at them.
— John Legend (@johnlegend) August 14, 2014
@SkaeJ yep, i'm the root of this fucking problem.
— John Legend (@johnlegend) August 14, 2014
@Ochapski This is about racism. I hate to break it to you, my friend.
— John Legend (@johnlegend) August 14, 2014
@SkaeJ It is disproportionate and incendiary either way. Sows fear and heightens the tension when people see weapons of war pointed at them
— John Legend (@johnlegend) August 14, 2014
@NotDrJ I'm happy that white people are reporting on and protesting against racist police action. It's still racist police action.

The national spotlight shone on Ferguson last night after two reporters were arrested and police used tear gas on civilian protestors were gathered to protest the police shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown.
