Johnny Depp Apologizes for Joke About Trump Assassination: Was ‘In Poor Taste’

Johnny Depp has apologized for joking about President Trump‘s assassination during an event last night.

The star of Pirates of the Caribbean: Yes, They Made a Fifth One actually said the following at the Glastonbury Festival last night:

“I’m not insinuating anything – by the way this will be in the press and it will be horrible – but when was the last time an actor assassinated a president?”

He followed up by joking about lying for a living.

The White House fired back in a statement calling those comments “sad” and saying that they “hope that some of Mr. Depp’s colleagues will speak out against this type of rhetoric as strongly as they would if his comments were directed to a Democrat elected official.”

Depp has now apologized in a statement obtained by People Magazine:

“I apologize for the bad joke I attempted last night in poor taste about President Trump. It did not come out as intended, and I intended no malice. I was only trying to amuse, not to harm anyone.”

NBC News reported earlier that the Secret Service was made aware of what Depp said.
