Jon Stewart’s Directorial Debut Gets a Release Date

You may recall that last summer, Jon Stewart left John Oliver in charge of The Daily Show while he traveled to the Middle East to film a movie, marking his directorial debut. That movie, Rosewater, is going to be getting a November 7th release, a prime spot for awards season.

The movie centers around journalist Maziar Bahari (played by Gael Garcia Bernal), who was captured shortly after the 2009 Iranian elections that led to widespread protests. Bahari had appeared as a guest on The Daily Show, in a segment taped in Iran with correspondent Jason Jones, days prior.

After he was released, Bahari revealed that his Daily Show interview was one of the things his captors specifically cited when they were interrogating and torturing him about his connections to foreign spies.
