Kim Davis’ Husband: Huckabee Called Her, Said He ‘Backs Her 100 Percent’

According to Kim Davis‘ husband, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee personally called his wife to tell her that he “backs her 100 percent.”

“As a matter of fact, if you all will look — it’s on the Internet — he’s coming to Kentucky to support her,” Joe Davis said. “He’s going to start a petition to get her out of jail.”

Huckabee, who previously applauded Davis, a Kentucky clerk, for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, said Davis’ imprisonment represents the “criminalization of Christianity.”

Joe Davis continued, referring specially to U.S. District Judge David Bunning, who found Kim Davis to be in contempt of court on Thursday and ordered her to jail: “If all these other people can understand the law and see the law, why can’t Bunning?”

Davis added that he would also go to jail to stand up for his religious beliefs. “If our government can bully you, then they’re going to make everyone bow down to what they want to do,” he said. “… If we don’t take our country back, we’re going to be in worse shape than this.”

Kim Davis’ attorney, Mathew Staver, said Friday morning that Davis, an elected official, is prepared to stay behind bars as long as is required in order to defend her beliefs, adding that she would only resign if her constituents want her to step down.
