Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told NBC News that Russian President Vladimir Putin has never had any contact with Donald Trump.
“President Putin has never had any contact with Trump, never spoken to him, including by telephone. The same goes for all of his staff — we don’t have any dealings with them,” Peskov said. He added that they had had no dealings in the past at all.
“Regretfully, Russia-bashing is becoming a habit in American elections,” Peskov added.
Three years ago while on a visit to Moscow Trump told MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts, “I do have a relationship [with Putin[ and I can tell you that he’s very interested in what we’re doing here today.”
NBC reported that Putin had tried to arrange, via Peskov, a meeting between Trump and Putin, though it never occurred because of changes in both men’s schedules. Putin reportedly sent Trump a gift afterward.
