Lead Trump Attorney John Dowd Resigns From President’s Legal Team

There goes another one.

New York Times received confirmation that John DowdDonald Trump‘s personal lawyer, has resigned from his position at the head of the president’s legal team. The early indications suggest that Dowd had grown frustrated with the president for ignoring his advice in terms of how to legally handle Robert Mueller‘s special investigation.

Jay Sekulow, one of Trump’s other lawyers and a possible replacement for Dowd, offered this statement on the departure:

Dowd himself had this to say:

Over the past weekend, Dowd caused something of an uproar when he called for the special counsel investigating the Trump campaign’s Russia ties to be shut down. Dowd later claimed he wasn’t speaking on Trump’s behalf when he made those remarks, though the president has attacked the Mueller investigation multiple times since then.

Dowd’s departure comes after several administrative officials took their leave in the last few weeks, not the least of which were Rex Tillerson and Gary Cohn. However, Trump’s legal team also had a recent expansion with the hiring of Joseph diGenova, a conservative legal advocate known to spread conspiracy theories that the FBI and DOJ are trying to undermine Trump by framing him for a crime.

Ironically, Trump bashed NYT recently for reporting that he was dissatisfied with his legal team and was likely to make changes to it.
