Limbaugh: How Can Paris Celebrate Free Speech and Then Sue Fox News?
Rush Limbaugh is one of many today questioning Paris’ planned lawsuit against Fox News just days after Paris stood as an international beacon of free speech. On CNN earlier today, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said the city is planning to sue Fox News because of its supposed Muslim “no-go zones.”
She said, “When we’re insulted, and when we’ve had an image, then I think we’ll have to sue, I think we’ll have to go to court, in order to have these words removed. The image of Paris has been prejudiced, and the honor of Paris has been prejudiced.”
In other words, their issue is defamatory statements by individuals on Fox News about their city (though the suit may likely amount to nothing). Fox, it should be noted, repeatedly apologized for exaggerated claims about these “no-go zones,” though that didn’t stop one French TV show from mocking Fox today.
Limbaugh had this to say about the planned suit:
Here’s Fox News, First Amendment, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, and CNN is ecstatic and happy that Fox News is going to sued for referring to the no-go zones in Paris. They’re very happy about it. You know the old saw, you believe in something, you watch somebody else lose it and you do nothing to defend it, you’ve got no excuse when they come for you.
