M.I.A.’s Newest Music Video Tackles Refugee Crisis
If you were wondering when artists would start taking on the global refugee crisis, you have your answer. M.I.A.‘s newest music video for her song “Borders” is pretty clearly about fleeing refugees.
You can see people running and climbing fences as M.I.A. sings lyrics like “Borders/What’s up with that?/Politics/What’s up with that?” and “Guns blow doors to the system/Yeah fuck ’em when we say we’re not with them.”
After the music video dropped today, M.I.A. posted a note to Twitter dedicating the song to her uncle, who migrated to the UK 50 years ago:
