Maryland Officially Warns Residents: Don’t Inject Disinfectants Into Your Body

Trump Suggests Injecting Disinfectant or Shining UV Light Insides Bodies as Possible Coronavirus Treatment

Maryland Emergency Management Angency (MDMEMA) took to Twitter on Friday to warn citizens against injecting any disinfectant products into the body, following President Donald Trump’s claim that it could be used as a means to treat the coronavirus.

“We have received several calls regarding the question about disinfectant use and #Covid19,” MEMA wrote before reminding citizens “under no circumstances should any disinfectant product be administered into the body through injection, ingestion or any other route.”

MEMA’s warning was posted in both English and Spanish:

During Thursday’s White House coronavirus press briefing, Trump floated the idea of injecting disinfectants into the lungs as a way to clean the coronavirus, adding, “you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs.”

The makers of Lysol have also warned against ingesting the product since Trump’s remarks, stating, “under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body.”

The president claimed on Friday, however, that he was being sarcastic when he made that suggestion, earning him criticism from several network hosts, including CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Fox Business’ Neil Cavuto.
