McCain Snarks That Putin Can Assist on Cyber Security ‘Since He’s Doing the Hacking’

President Donald Trump got the day started by unleashing a tweetstorm in which he stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin “vehemently denied” meddling in last year’s election and that there were questions on why the DNC didn’t better protect its servers. However, perhaps the remark that most stood out was Trump’s revelation that the two leaders discussed an “impenetrable Cyber Security unit” to safeguard elections.

As you could imagine, this topic was a major point of discussion on the Sunday shows today. And during Sen. John McCain’s appearance on CBS’s Face the Nation this morning, he responded to the president’s tweet with a healthy dose of snark.

After telling host John Dickerson that there Russia needs to be punished for their interference in the election or they’ll be encouraged to do it again, McCain was then asked to give his thoughts on Putin being involved in a cyber security team with the US.

“I am sure that Vladimir Putin could be of enormous assistance in that effort since he’s doing the hacking,” the Arizona lawmaker joked.

He further noted that while he didn’t initially support Trump for president, he supports him now and he’d like to work with where he could.
