McDonald’s Hires Robert Gibbs to Help Build ‘Modern, Progressive Burger Company’
But will he get paid $15 an hour?
McDonald’s announced Tuesday it had hired former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs as Executive Vice President, Global Chief Communications Officer, whatever that means.
“Robert and Silvia are both highly-respected, talented leaders who will bring a wealth of experience and outside perspective to McDonald’s as we build a more modern, progressive burger company,” CEO Steve Easterbrook said in a statement Tuesday.
Gibbs served as President Barack Obama’s initial press secretary before leaving for a life of cable news punditry. McDonald’s, meanwhile, has seen declining sales and cultural cache as the fast food market turns away from the processed dreck it calls food. (This scribe’s grandmother still swears by their coffee; I’ll take her word for it.)
The savvy will note that Gibbs’ new gig is at odds with Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move campaign, which promotes healthy eating.
