Mediaite’s Noah Rothman Talks Tepid Reaction To Obama’s SOTU With Radio Host John Carlson
On Thursday morning, Mediaite’s Noah Rothman joined KVI-AM Seattle radio host John Carlson to discuss Presidents Barack Obama’s State of the Union address, as well as the divergent reactions to it from both the public and the media.
Rothman spoke to Carlson about a recent post on Mediaite in which he dissected the reaction to Obama’s State of the Union address on Bing’s instant reaction tracker. He noted that the tracker detected a distinct dip in public approval of Obama’s speech when he began to address new gun control measures.
Rothman said that, while Bing’s tracker is interesting, it is anecdotal and not scientific. It’s results, however, dovetail with public polling taken in advance of Obama’s State of the Union speech which indicated that new gun control measures are not a public policy priority for most voters.
Rothman and Carson later talked about how the president appears to be planning to navigate the political environment in his second term, given a recent dip in his overall job approval ratings. They also discussed hot topics in the media, like Comedy Central host Jon Stewart‘s reaction to the State of the Union and the satirical website Daily Currant’s recent track record of tricking journalists into reporting parody stories as news.
