Michael Phelps Suspended From USA Swimming Team

 

Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps has been suspended from participating in USA Swimming activities in light of a recent DUI charge, according to ESPN.

USA Swimming is the governing body for competitive swimming in the United States.

In a statement, USA Swimming Executive Director Chuck Wielgus called Phelps’ conduct “serious” and said it “required significant consequences.

Phelps’ suspension is set to last for six month. He has also been withdrawn from the 2015 FINA World Championships team.

Phelps was reportedly stopped by police in Baltimore, Md., in late September for driving 80 mph in a 45 mph zone. He tweeted Sunday that he would soon “take some time away to attend a program that will provide the help I need to better understand myself”:
