Montana Man with 2 Wives: You Can’t Have Marriage Equality ‘Without Polygamy’

Last week, a Politico op-ed published hours after the Supreme Court’s Obergefell v. Hodges ruling argued that the decision’s logic allowed for polygamy. As our own Alex Griswold joked, “Man, that slope was slippier than it looked.”

Welp, sure enough, Nathan Collier of Billings, Montana went to the Yellowstone County Courthouse on Tuesday to try and obtain a license for his second wife. You see, Nathan is married to Victoria and Christine Collier. Nathan and Victoria married legally and religiously in 2000, whereas Christine joined the family via religious ties only in 2007.

They hope to change this since, according to Nathan, “It’s about marriage equality. You can’t have this without polygamy.” And if the application is denied, which it most likely will be, Nathan intends to file a lawsuit.

The trio aren’t affiliated with the Mormon church — at least, because they were kicked out for polygamy. They did, however, appear on the reality TV series Sister Wives a few years back.
