MSNBC’s Malcolm Nance Says Russia Trying to ‘Ethnically Cleanse’ Ukraine, But Ukrainians ‘Have Fight In Them’ Putin Can’t Imagine
MSNBC national security analyst Malcolm Nance told SiriusXM host Dean Obeidallah that Russia is trying to “ethnically cleanse” Ukraine, but Ukrainians “have fight in them” that Vladimir Putin can’t imagine.
On Friday’s edition of The Dean Obeidallah Show, the host talked with Nance about the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He asked about the brutal siege of Mariupol, and Nance agreed it was reminiscent of atrocious World War II attacks:
Dean: The images of Mariupol—while not as bad–reminds me of Stalingrad when the Nazis bombed that Russian city and [bombing] of Dresden [Germany] on some level during World War Two with what the Allies did. It’s heartbreaking.
Malcolm: Don’t worry, they’re [Russians] working their way to the Stalingrad level. This is a deliberate strategy and it’s a deliberate tactic. They want to do this. They are destroying these cities as a way not just to punish the people who are in these cities but to place such a burden on the government that it would break their will to fight. What you’re seeing is what they did to Grozny, Chechnya… they leveled every building in that city and they bombed out and killed all the civilians as a way of sorting out who was in the town. They did the exact same thing in northern Syria where the first thing they did when the Russians intervened was bombed over 100 hospitals, aid stations, all the police stations, all the paramedic stations, anything that could give assistance to the civilian population, to make the civilian population abandon it.
Russia’s goal is to ethnically cleanse that city and to start completely over. Another insidious thing they’re doing, Dean, is they’re kidnapping the population. They’ve estimated that 400,000 people have been taken out of that city in that immediate area of the occupied areas. And that’s really a bad thing.
Dean: So it’s really ethnic cleansing. So when they see the fleeing, Putin must be happy to see three and a half million refugees fleeing?!
Malcolm: Yeah, that’s his strategy. Get rid of anyone that would want to oppose you. The problem is he didn’t understand that these were men in the eastern cities who were sending their women and children away so that they could fight. If there’s any one thing I learned in Ukraine is that these people have fight in them and they brought it to the Russians at a level the Russians couldn’t even possibly imagine.
