Neil deGrasse Tyson Tweet Trolling Climate Deniers on Hurricane Harvey Goes Viral
Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has been attracting a lot of attention for some recent comments he made about Hurricane Harvey and climate science.
When the storm made landfall in Texas at the beginning of the weekend, Tyson sent out this widely-circulated tweet:
Hmm. Don’t see much denial of @NOAA climate scientists who have predicted Hurricane Harvey’s devastating path into Texas.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration monitors ocean and weather activity, and much of their data pertains to global warming research. Even so, there were some people who wondered what exactly Tyson was trying to insinuate about meteorology and climate change.
Climate science isn’t meteorology. This tweet is as bad as claiming global warming doesn’t exist because it’s snowing in winter. https://t.co/RIYuonuyFr

When TMZ caught up with Tyson and asked him to explain, he said that he wasn’t trying to make a point about “the atmosphere of climate denial” at the time, and it was his own fault the conversation went in that direction.
Tyson continued to say that “if you’re in denial of global warming you’re in denial of objective scientific truths. That’s not a political stance, that’s an ignorant stance.”
